General
What does 4W Sciences actually do?
We're a Dublin-based health technology company working across two connected pillars: Digital Health Platforms (EHR, telehealth, virtual care, and patient portal software) and HealthTech Services (clinical, security, interoperability, analytics, and strategy advisory). Most of our customers use both — the platforms and the expertise to make them work.
Where is 4W Sciences based, and who do you work with?
We're headquartered in Tallaght, Dublin, and work with hospitals, primary care networks, payers, and digital health vendors across Ireland and the rest of Europe, established in 2023.
What's the difference between your Digital Health Platforms and HealthTech Services?
Platforms are the software itself — EHR, telehealth, virtual care, and patient portal. Services are the expertise that surrounds it: clinical governance, patient safety, cybersecurity, interoperability, data analytics, and strategy advisory. You can engage us for either independently, or both together.
What size of organisation do you typically work with?
We work across the spectrum — from single-site primary care practices to multi-hospital regional health systems, payers, and digital health vendors. Our platforms and engagement model are configurable rather than one-size-fits-all, so scope and pricing adjust to fit.
Platforms
Which existing EHRs or legacy systems can your platforms integrate with?
Our platforms are built API-first and support both modern HL7 FHIR-based exchange and legacy HL7 v2 / CDA interfaces, so we can connect to most established EHRs, lab systems, and pharmacy platforms without requiring a full rip-and-replace.
Do you support HL7 FHIR?
Yes — FHIR is the default standard across every platform we build, and it's central to how we approach interoperability projects for customers, whether or not they use our own EHR.
Can we start with just one platform and add more later?
Yes, most customers do exactly this — telehealth or the patient portal are common starting points. Every platform is built on the same underlying architecture, so adding another module later doesn't mean starting over.
Is the patient portal available on mobile as well as desktop?
Yes — the patient portal is browser-based and fully responsive, so patients can book appointments, message their care team, and view results from a phone, tablet, or desktop without installing an app.
Do your platforms work for organisations outside a hospital setting, like primary care or community health?
Yes — configurable workflows mean the same underlying platform adapts to primary care, specialty clinics, and community or behavioural health settings, not just acute hospital environments.
Services
Do you build custom software, or is it a pre-built platform we configure?
Our platforms are configured, not custom-coded from scratch — this keeps upgrades fast and predictable. Where genuinely custom integration work is needed (for example, a specific legacy system), our services team scopes that separately.
What does your patient safety work actually involve day to day?
It ranges from medication safety reviews and incident reporting design, to risk stratification tooling and safety culture assessments — see the Patient Safety section of HealthTech Services for the full breakdown.
Can you help with cybersecurity if we already have our own IT security team?
Absolutely — we regularly work alongside an existing internal IT or security team, typically focused on the health-technology-specific pieces: FHIR API security, EHR access controls, and healthcare-specific incident response planning, rather than replacing your general IT security function.
Do you offer data analytics and reporting even if we're not using your EHR platform?
Yes — our Data Analytics & Population Health service works with data from your existing systems, connected via standard interfaces, so you don't need to be on a 4W Sciences platform to benefit from it.
Implementation & Support
How long does a typical implementation take?
It depends on scope, but most customers see a first module — commonly telehealth or the patient portal — go live within weeks, with a phased rollout of additional platforms and integrations over the following months.
Do you provide training for clinical staff?
Yes — structured onboarding and training are part of every implementation, alongside change management support to help drive genuine clinician adoption rather than just technical go-live.
What happens after go-live — do you offer ongoing support?
Yes — 24/7 platform monitoring, upgrades, training refreshers, and performance reporting are all part of our managed services, so support doesn't end at go-live.
Security & Compliance
Is our data GDPR-compliant if we work with you?
Our platforms and processes are built around GDPR and Irish Data Protection Act requirements from the ground up, and our HealthTech Services team can also support your own DPIA, consent management, and DPO obligations directly — but overall compliance depends on your organisation's full data handling, not just the software you use.
Where is data hosted, and does it stay within the EU?
Yes — data is hosted within the EEA by default. Any exception involving a non-EEA service provider would only proceed with an appropriate safeguard in place, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, consistent with our Privacy Policy.
